Sara Loft is a Senior Advisor at Counsel Public Affairs, based in Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory.
Sara is Bear Clan from the Kanien’kehá:ka Nation and is an elected Council Member of the Mohawks of the Bay of Quinte. She leads Counsel’s Nibwaakaawin Indigenous Engagement practice, supporting organizations seeking to build effective, culturally respectful relationships with First Nations, Indigenous peoples, and communities.
Sara has extensive experience across government, Indigenous business, community engagement, policy and governance, economic development, procurement, resource development, renewable energy, and corporate reconciliation. She spent several years with the Government of Canada before serving as Special Advisor to the National Chief of the Assembly of First Nations.
Sara is the founder of Tawi:ne Consulting Inc., a First Nation firm specializing in Indigenous engagement, policy and governance, capacity development, economic development, and private partnerships.
Sara sits on the Board of Directors for the National Circle for Indigenous Food and Agriculture and the advisory board for CarbonRX. She teaches Indigenous Policy and Governance at Toronto Metropolitan University and the First Nations Technical Institute.
Sara holds a Master of Public Administration and a Juris Doctor from Queen’s University, an Honours Bachelor of Arts from Toronto Metropolitan University, and a certificate in Negotiations and Dispute Resolution from the University of Windsor.
