As a Research Associate at Counsel, Shawn helps clients refine and achieve their government relations objectives.
Shawn previously led the government relations efforts at his undergraduate student association, engaging with elected officials and staff at all levels of government on behalf of the university’s 18,000 students. He advocated for the association’s members as a participant in Waterloo city council subcommittees, lobbied provincial elected officials on issues such as investment in the post-secondary sector, and acted as a spokesperson for the organization in interviews with media outlets like CBC and the Toronto Star.
After leaving student politics, Shawn served as an intern in a Member of Parliament’s constituency office, and currently acts as an executive of a GTA provincial riding association. He credits these experiences for his appreciation of community engagement and the importance of working with people at the grassroots level.
Shawn also worked in the Ontario Ministry of Energy in an issues management role, developing a weekly issues management forecast to brief Minister’s Office staff and completing media scans to help Ministry colleagues anticipate communications challenges.
Today, Shawn provides his strategic planning expertise and organized client management skills to wide range of clients and industries including those in the health care, energy, and the non-profit sectors. He holds a Bachelor of Arts from Wilfrid Laurier University and a post-graduate certificate in Government Relations from Seneca College.
