Steve Greenaway Promoted to Vice President

Counsel Public Affairs is pleased to announce the promotion of Steve Greenaway to Vice President in its British Columbia practice, effective immediately.

The promotion comes as British Columbia changes government for the first time in nine years. With the BC Conservative majority victory, leader Lorne Doerkson will be sworn in as Premier in the coming weeks, with cabinet appointments, mandate letters and a first budget still to come. Few people in the province are better placed than Steve to help clients understand what all this means.

“Steve has spent his working life inside the Conservative movement, and he built relationships across the BC Conservative caucus during the last Legislature while the party was in opposition,” said Brad Lavigne, President of Counsel Public Affairs. “Our clients will be engaging with a new Premier, new ministers, new political staff and a public service in transition. Steve will give them a clear line of sight into every one of those rooms, and the judgment to know what matters in each.”

Since joining Counsel in April 2022, Steve has led the firm’s client engagement with the BC Conservatives, including presentations to caucus and meetings with individual members. He is an active member of the BC Conservative Party and has represented Counsel clients with Conservative MLAs throughout the last Legislature, Mr. Doerkson among them. He also advised clients in the energy, health, transportation and commercial real estate sectors, as well as on First Nations relations.

His involvement in conservative politics dates to 1976, when he was the youngest delegate at the Progressive Conservative leadership convention that chose Joe Clark as its leader. He worked closely with Mr. Clark through the following decade, then served in the Mulroney government as Executive Assistant to then Justice Minister Kim Campbell. In 1991 he was elected National Vice-President of the Progressive Conservative Party. Before joining Counsel, he founded and built public affairs agencies in British Columbia and Saskatchewan, serving clients in forestry, tourism, agriculture and finance.

Steve was raised on his family’s cattle ranch near Willams Lake, also the hometown of new Premier-designate Doerkson. He is currently based on Vancouver Island.
