Charles Harnick, Q.C. is an accomplished mediator and strategist. His broad network of relationships comes from years of experience working in the government and is evidence of his steadfast ability to resolve issues and provide sound, strategic communications counsel to clients.

Charles provides government relations services and strategic advice to a wide range of public and private sector clients, especially in the areas of land development, legal and regulatory affairs, municipal affairs, and environmental policy.

He also specializes in Native Affairs and provides advice to clients regarding the Duty to Consult and Accommodate First Nations and was an advisor to former Grand Council Chief of the Union of Ontario Indians John Beaucage.

Among other skills, Charles is an experienced mediator who specializes in alternative dispute resolution. He is a panellist with York Street Dispute Resolution Group where he mediates conflict around a wide variety of issues relating to insurance.

As a litigator and a policy consultant, Charles is able to untangle complex issues and get key people talking. He consistently engages in stakeholder management, arbitration, and issues analysis and mitigation.

Charles served as Attorney General of Ontario and Minister of Native Affairs from 1995-1999, and as MPP for the riding of Willowdale from 1990-1999. Among other accomplishments as Attorney General, Charles orchestrated the creation of the Ontario Mandatory Mediation Program and Legal Aid Ontario.

Called to the Bar in 1977, Charles continues to be an active and successful civil litigator. He received the distinction of Specialist in Civil Litigation by the Law Society of Upper Canada in 1991, the designation of the Queen's Counsel by the Government of Canada in 1992, and was awarded the Law Society Medal in 2005.

Charles is a former board member and Vice Chairman of St. John's Rehabilitation Hospital and the Senior Adjudicative Officer of the General Insurance Ombudservice. He is also an Ex-Officio Bencher of the Law Society of Upper Canada.
