Jodee Mason has a strong network and an unmatched line-of-sight into the dynamics of the new government in Manitoba. She joins Counsel with over two decades of experience in Media, Strategic Communications, and Issues Management.

Her work ethic and deep understanding of the decision-making process ensures clients have the support they need to meet their goals.

With generations of Ukrainian and Métis heritage, Jodee is a proud rural Manitoban who grew up on a family farm in central Manitoba.  She brings small-town values of dedication and giving back to her work as she continues living in a growing rural community in Eastern Manitoba with her husband and two children.

Jodee studied journalism in Brandon and quickly climbed the ranks in the Manitoba media industry.  With her ability to listen and write heart-felt stories she became the News Director at a Parkland radio station and later moved on to anchor the 6PM news cast for a TV station in Westman.

She then spent eight years working in Media Relations as Press Secretary to Cabinet and Issues Manager in the Doer and Selinger NDP governments where she honed her skills as an effective communication advisor and issues manager with a stint in multiple government departments. She also managed communications for the East Side Road Authority in Manitoba where she established relationships and experience negotiating with First Nations leaders. Elders and knowledge keepers provided her insight and teaching in the role that she shares with clients today.

Jodee joins Counsel after working for one of Manitoba’s largest unions, the Manitoba Government and General Employees’ Union. She played a key role in strike preparations and leading media relations. She was also a part of a team that lobbied and succeeded in establishing secure entrances in Manitoba liquor stores.

Above her professional contributions to communities in Manitoba, Jodee will tell you her biggest accomplishment is being a mom to two boys.  Her boys are elite hockey players, and she loves cheering them on at rinks across the province, country, and world more than anything.
