Counsel Public Affairs is proud to announce the addition of Alex MacDonald to our growing and multi-partisan Federal Practice team as Account Director. Alex is a public policy and government relations expert who has worked at the provincial, federal and international levels, including recent experience with the Conservative opposition in Ottawa.

“Alex is a thought leader and platform writer who can navigate the nexus of government relations and public policy on behalf Counsel’s clients,” said Sheamus Murphy, Partner and Federal Practice Lead. “I am thrilled to introduce Alex to our clients as he will add a new dimension to our federal government relations efforts.”

Alex MacDonald has regularly contributed to the public square of ideas through opinion pieces and articles on a variety of topics including housing, drug policy, Arctic security and defence. Additionally, as a passionate policy practitioner, Alex has been sought out by Conservative parties at both the federal and provincial levels to help research and draft electoral platforms.

“I’m excited to enhance Counsel’s policy driven government relations approach, as we enter a period where all political parties will be looking for new ideas to refresh their agendas,” said Alex. “I also look forward to contributing to Counsel’s legislative reform work in the context of the current minority parliament.”

On Parliament Hill, Alex recently served as a Policy Advisor to the Conservative Leader of the Official Opposition. In the Alberta Government, Alex served in the Premier’s Office and assisted the Minister of Education on curriculum reform. At the United Nations, Alex served a Member State by following and advising on international peace and security issues, including disarmament affairs and peacekeeping.
